How to write a Google Play listing that ranks
Google Play has no keyword field: it reads your title and descriptions. Each part has a job, for search and for the people who read it.
Title
30 characters
Your app's name and your most important keyword. It's the first thing people read in search results.
Short description
80 characters
What your app does, in one sentence that makes people want it, with one or two more keywords.
Full description
4,000 characters
Start with what the app does and who it's for. Then the main features in short paragraphs or bullet points, with your keywords used naturally, two to four times each.
Not sure which keywords to use? Find them with the Google Play keyword tool, then see where you rank with the rank checker.
Google Play metadata rules to know
Google Play's metadata policy can get a listing rejected or an update held back. The checks above flag the most common problems:
- No ranking or promotional words (like best, #1, top, free, sale or new) in your title, icon or developer name.
- No emojis, emoticons or repeated special characters in the title, and no words in ALL CAPS unless that's your brand.
- No keyword lists, no keywords repeated over and over, and no keywords that have nothing to do with your app.
- No anonymous or unattributed user testimonials in the description.
Edit and publish your listing in one place
ASO Tracker's Store Listing Manager has these checks built in, publishes to Google Play through your Play Console with a backup before every change, and shows 14 days later whether the change helped your rankings and installs.

What is the Google Play title character limit?+
30 characters, spaces included. It used to be 50; Google lowered it to 30 in 2021.
How long can the Google Play short description be?+
80 characters. It shows on your store page, so it should say what your app does and why people want it.
How long can the full description be?+
4,000 characters. You don't have to use them all, but Google Play reads the whole text for search.
Are my images uploaded?+
No. The graphics check runs in your browser, so your files never leave your computer.
Is it free?+
Yes. Writing, checking and previewing have no limit. Loading a listing from Google Play is 3 times a day without an account, with no daily limit in a free account.
Can I publish my listing from here?+
Not from this page. In a free ASO Tracker account, the Store Listing Manager publishes your listing to Google Play through your Play Console, with a backup before every change.
