What moves your Google Play ranking

Google doesn't publish its formula, but these are the signals Google's own guidance and developers' experience point to. Check your ranking before and after each change to see what works for your app.

Your title

The 30-character title carries the most weight. Your main keyword belongs here.

Your short and full descriptions

The 80-character short description and the 4,000-character description tell Google Play what your app is about.

Installs and how fast they grow

Apps that people install and keep after a search tend to climb for that search.

Ratings and reviews

A good average rating and recent reviews help both the ranking and the number of people who tap Install.

Your store page

Icon, screenshots and video decide how many people install after seeing your app in the results.

App quality

Crashes and ANRs reported in Play Console can hold an app back.

From a one-time check to an app ranking tracker

A single check is a snapshot. ASO Tracker's Rank Tracker checks your keywords every day or every week, keeps the history in a chart, and shows whether your last listing change helped. A free account tracks 10 keywords every week.

Questions

Is the rank checker free?+

Yes. Check up to 5 keywords at a time, about ten checks an hour, without an account.

Where do the rankings come from?+

From Google Play's own search, read live for the country you pick, in that country's main language. Google Play's website shows the first 30 apps for a search, so the checker sees the top 30.

Why does my app show a different position on my phone?+

Google Play adapts results to each person: the apps you installed, your language, your device and your past searches. The checker reads results without a signed-in user, which is closer to what a new user sees.

My app shows 30+. What does it mean?+

Your app isn't in the first 30 results for that keyword in that country. Few people scroll that far, so it's worth targeting easier keywords first.

How often do Google Play rankings change?+

Every day. Updates, new competitors, ratings and install trends all move positions, which is why tracking them daily shows much more than a single check.

Does it work for iPhone apps?+

No. ASO Tracker is made for Google Play, so the checker reads Google Play search only.
